Shift from past-orientation to future-possibility as a coaching tool

Most clients are unconsciously driving into the future while staring in the rearview mirror. They use past experiences as the frame of reference for what's possible — which means they recreate the same patterns and limitations over and over. As a coach, one of the most powerful interventions you can make is shifting a client's orientation from 'what has happened' to 'what is possible.' Like painting on a canvas — stop looking at what's already been painted and turn toward the blank canvas ahead. When someone travels to a new city where nobody knows their history, they can walk off the plane and be anyone. That's the level of freedom available when past identity is released.
