You cannot successfully remove incentives once they're implemented. Employees expect to keep them permanently, and you lose the ability to test whether they would perform without rewards.

Once you install a performance incentive system, you've made a permanent commitment — employees will expect to keep the rewards, and taking them away creates resentment and deliberate underperformance. This irreversibility is why incentive systems are one of the most dangerous tools in management.
