Creativity Is Recombination Not Origination
Creativity isn't making something from nothing — that's a myth that paralyzes people. Real creativity is connecting existing ideas in new combinations. I think of it as reactive and proactive. Reactive creativity is problem-solving: you hit an obstacle and your mind generates a new route around it. Proactive creativity is deliberately carving out time with no specific problem to solve — just letting novel combinations surface. The raw material for both is always pre-existing elements. When you understand that, the pressure of 'being original' dissolves, and you can focus on building the widest possible library of inputs to draw from. Information in our minds lives in disconnected silos by default. The work is building bridges between those silos until your thinking becomes fluid enough to navigate complex problems and generate breakthroughs on demand.
